What base vehicles do you use?
On a regular basis, we use Mercedes, Volvo and MAN chassis, although other chassis’ are under investigation. Some customers like to provide their own chassis and we are happy to work with this given enough information to create an accurate design for construction.

Can I supply my own chassis?
This is discussed on a case by case basis. It is usually not economical unless the chassis can be sourced very cheaply.

What makes MCL Motorhomes different?
Our use of finest quality components, our uncompromising attitude to motorhome construction, our level of finish and our engineering know-how. If you would like to experience it first-hand then please visit us at our facility where you will be able to view a number of vehicles. The other major difference between us and other motorhome manufacturers is that our vehicles are bespoke built.

What do you mean by 'bespoke'?
Bespoke means that we build vehicles to our customer's requirements rather than our own. This includes such requirements as garage storage, length, interior layout, colours, fabrics, technical equipment. For more information see the basic spec section or contact us.

Can I drive one of your vehicles on a car license?
If you passed your driving test prior to 1997 then you can drive up to 7.5 tonnes on your regular car license, but only a very few of our vehicles are that light, so you will need a class C stipulation (an LGV license) to drive most of them. If you got your license after 1997, you can only drive 3.5 Tonnes and therefore will need to get a Class C1 to enable you to drive 3.5 - 7.5 tonnes.
Both the class C and class C1 licenses require you to take a driving course and pass both a theory and a practical test, there is very little difference between the C1 and the Class C. The course typically takes 3-5 days depending on your experience.
Before driving or commissioning a vehicle it is important that you check that you have the appropriate vehicle category stipulation on your license. See both the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) website, and the DVLA website for more details.

Do you manufacture a motorhome under 7.5 Tonnes?
Yes we can. In the past the majority of our customers have had specialist requirements that have dictated a large, heavy base vehicle. We are now designing more vehicles for people using them as a traditional motorhome and for whom a lighter vehicle is more appropriate. For more information on our under 7.5 tonne motorhomes, please see Tycho.

How much do your vehicles cost?
Obviously the price of our vehicles vary enormously according to the type of chassis, number of slide-outs, general spec and specialist requirements. A basic vehicle would be around £200, 000 but the majority of our vehicles come out at between £250,000 and £350,000 on the road.

Can I trade in my old motorhome?
We can assist in selling second-hand MCL or Ultra vehicles as we know their history, please contact us for more information. We usually do not take on other makes of motorhome.

How long does it take to build a motorhome?
A build usually takes about six months. When we can actually start a build depends on the chassis (which is individually ordered to the customer's specification) delay and how many other vehicles we are building/have waiting.

Do you sell second hand vehicles?
Our vehicle very rarely come on to the second hand market, but when they do we are often responsible for selling them. If we have some currently available they will be in the for sale section. Many of these vehicles will be available to view at our facility

Do you undertake conversions?
Yes, our main area is in the manufacture of A-class motorhomes, but we also have the knowledge and experience in conversions of any size. Please contact us for more information.

Where can I see your vehicles?
We are more than happy to receive visitors at our factory, where you can partake in a factory tour and experience our ethos. Take a look at our find us page for details of how to get there and a bit about the area. We also attend some of the larger motorhome shows, see the shows section for details.
